McMaster Postdoctoral McCall MacBain Program
10+ Years, 500+ Workshops & 10,000+ Researchers Trained
Hi there,
Here are some things we discussed in our workshop, and a few things that preview our upcoming in-person time.
Specifcally the preview material for our in-person time together has a video on visuals and a 2 part video series on presence. The total run time for all 3 is 60 mintues and would definitely be good to watch before our time together so we can spend time practicing and giving feedback instead of introducing material.
The videos about presence cover body language and voice. We'll spend time both talking about these videos and practicng the techniques shared in them.
The video about visuals focuses on how to use them more effectively. There are some tips there about specific tools in PowerPoint, but the real key is to think more critically about timing, how to minimize processing time, how to create more connected slides, and how to test them.
For our time together, please be prepared to share a less than 3-minute version with slides of what will eventually become your 5-minute talk. The shortened form for practicing is both to challenge you to distill it to its essence as well as so that we can get more people more feedback.
See you in a few weeks.
Remember: we grow strongest when we grow together.
Cheers,
Andy
